Billy the Rescue Dog

Meet Billy

Billy the Rescue Dog is the true story of Billy, a Treeing Walker Coonhound. It tells of his rescue by PAWS New England, and his new life on Maggie’s Farm in Rhode Island with Susan and Cherisse; a black Lab named Oliver; two cats, Luke and Hazel; three goats, Aria, Gus and Gwendolyn; and 18 unnamed but well-loved chickens.

Billy adjusts to life with many animals and learns that he is safe and loved. As he gains confidence, Billy begins to find things around his new home, and his tracking skills become critically important when a chicken goes missing.

Written by Susan Joyce, illustrated by Thea Ernest (theaernestartist.com), and designed by Jeanette Chow.

Join us for story time and meet the real Billy on Saturday, April 15 from 1-3 p.m. at Ink Fish Books, 488 Main Street, Warren, RI. Susan will be reading the story and signing books!

After we have recouped our costs, we will donate 5% of our profits to PAWS New England, the rescue organization responsible for saving Billy and so many other dogs. This organization works tirelessly to provide loving homes for wonderful dogs who might otherwise be euthanized. Many dogs in their care—like Billy—have medical issues due to neglect or abuse that need to be treated before they move to foster care. Fostering is an important step in the dog’s journey to a happy life. The foster parent is able to learn the dog’s needs and relay this information to the adopting family, helping to ensure a perfect fit.
